Stewardship Week takes place in the spring. It is organized as a series of learning activities, set up at different stations. The students move between different stations, where they learn about a variety of subjects, e.g. table top hydrology, leaf identification, reptiles, power and utility safety, geology, fossils. The trainers come from local environmental and conservation agencies, such as the U.S. Forest Service, the Illinois Department of Natural Resources and the Illinois State Geologic Survey (complete list of sponsors). The fact that DSAC is located in the Shawnee National Forest makes it particularly suitable to host youth events and other types of alternative education courses.
