Illinois 4-H Livestock Skillathon Team finishes third at national contest

The Illinois State 4-H Livestock Skillathon Team placed third in the nation recently at the National 4-H Livestock Skillathon Contest. The contest was held on Nov. 14 in conjunction with the North American International Livestock Exposition in Louisville, Ky.


Team members included Jaylene Jennings of DeKalb, Trey Fecke of Bonfield, Amy Loschen of Kempton, and Caitlyn Bowyer of Sumner.


The National 4-H Livestock Skillathon Contest is a premier event of education and competition for youth involved in livestock production programs. The Illinois team placed second in identification of meats, breeds, and equipment, sixth in Quality Assurance, sixth in evaluation, and third overall.


Individual honors went to Jennings for placing second in identification and tenth high individual overall. She also was selected as a Top 10 All-American. Fecke finished 14th overall. Loschen placed sixth in identification and 18th overall. Bowyer finished eighth in evaluation and 19th overall.


The team was coached by Steve Austin and Mark Bowyer. The team was sponsored by the Illinois 4-H Foundation and the Illinois State 4-H program.
